Every page on this site says that if we have something wrong we will correct it publicly and date the correction. This is where you tell us. Corrections carrying a link to the provider page or document are acted on fastest, because they can be verified without a conversation.
What to write about
Three things reach us usefully. The first is the one this site is built around.
Tell us what page it is on, what it says, and what it should say. A link to the provider page or document that shows it is the fastest way to get it changed.
We have published 73 corrections to our own records so far, each dated in the change log with what we originally got wrong. A correction from a reader is treated exactly like one we find ourselves: the original entry stays, and a new one says what changed and when.
Email us about correctionIf we have recorded something inaccurately, or answered a question we have listed as unresolved, we want the correction and we will date it.
We currently publish 22 open questions naming providers and what we could not establish. Most say we have not raised them with you yet, which we say rather than implying we have. A reply changes the record, and a non-reply is published as a non-reply rather than as silence.
Email us about provider responseHow a benchmark is matched, why a provider sits in one section rather than another, why a figure is shown as disputed. The reasoning is public and so is the argument with it.
The methodology page sets out every rule the comparisons follow. If a rule produces a result that looks wrong to you, that is worth more to us than agreement.
Email us about methodologyWhat we cannot answer
Two questions arrive often and we will always decline both. Saying so here is more useful than a reply that disappoints later.
- Which product you should take
- Recommending a regulated home finance product to a particular person is advice. We are not authorised to give it, and a research site that gave it anyway would be worth less, not more. What we can do is show you what every provider publishes, test your figures against it, and get a well-formed question to someone authorised to answer it. Ask an adviser your question · Check the published criteria against your situation
- Whether a product is permissible for you
- We report scholarly positions with attribution: who certified what, under which standard, and where opinions differ. We do not issue rulings. That is a question for a scholar you trust. What the certifiers actually say
What happens to what you send
This page has no form, deliberately. The links open your own email client, and the message goes to an inbox rather than into anything we built. We operate no enquiry database, we do not add you to a mailing list, and nothing you send reaches a provider or an adviser.
- If it changes something
- The change log records what changed, when, and what we had previously published. It never records who told us. A correction from a reader is treated exactly like one we find ourselves. See every correction we have made
- If you work for a provider
- Replies are recorded against the open question they answer, with the date. A non-reply is published as a non-reply rather than left as silence, which is why most of our questions currently say we have not raised them yet.
- What we do with your address
- Nothing beyond replying. It is not added to a list, not used for anything else, and not shared. How we handle data, in full
Common questions
- Can you tell me which Islamic mortgage I should get?
- No, and this is the one thing we will always decline. We are researchers, not advisers. We publish what providers state, with sources and dates, and we build tools that test your figures against published criteria. Recommending a regulated home finance product to a particular person is regulated advice, which we are not authorised to give and would not give even if we were. An FCA-authorised adviser can look at your circumstances; we cannot.
- Will you tell me if a provider is genuinely Sharia-compliant?
- We will tell you who certified a product, which scholars are named, what standard they applied and when, and where scholarly opinion differs. We will not tell you whether it is permissible for you. That is a question for a scholar you trust, and a research site issuing rulings would be doing something it has no standing to do.
- Do you store what I send you?
- This page has no form. The links open your own email client and the message goes to an inbox. We hold no database of enquiries, we do not add you to a mailing list, and nothing you send is passed to a provider or an adviser. If a correction leads to a change, the change log records what changed and when, never who told us.
- How quickly will you reply?
- We have not set a response time we can guarantee, so we are not going to publish one. A correction with a source attached is the fastest thing to act on, because it can be verified and dated without a conversation.
